They carried out their threat. Personal data of 1,121 magistrates were published by a collective of hackers, announced the Ministry of Justice, Monday, July 3. A complaint has been filed with the Paris prosecutor’s office for “harm to an automated data processing system”detailed the Chancellery, confirming information from the Numerama site.

The group of hackers, dubbed KromSec, had claimed responsibility for its attack on Sunday evening on its Telegram channel, warning that “the sequence of events in France will determine whether or not we publish the data”. “The French government must eradicate racism from its police forces otherwise the collective Anonymous will come to the aid of the demonstrators”, KromSec also tweeted on Sunday. The group of hackers decided to release the data late Monday morning when other hacker teams sought to claim ownership of the cyberattack and resell it.

The Ministry of Justice stated, without giving further details, that it is “old data” and “the hack did not target the ministry’s servers”. The Excel file contains various personal data (professional emails, telephone numbers, postal addresses, even Iban) of judges still in activity, but also of magistrates now retired or called to other functions, such as the current Minister of Equality between women and men, Isabelle Rome.
