For its smell coming from elsewhere and its animal woody notes, wood of oud is one of the most sought-after species there is. In a Parisian perfumery, it evokes a mystical, captivating world among customers. A new darling of perfumers, oud comes from an exotic tree that grows on the other side of the world, in the lands of central Vietnam.

Oud wood sells for 500 times more than ebony

Wood of oud is difficult to cultivate. A tree takes ten years to grow, and only a minority of them produce Oud resin, which is actually a defense mechanism secreted when the tree is attacked. To artificially create this process, a product must be injected into the trunk so that the tree defends itself. This wood, used for centuries in Asian countries for medicinal purposes, is today one of the most precious in the world. It sells for 500 times more than ebony.
