A first Frenchman to qualify in Monaco. Arthur Fils, 36th in the world, only needed 62 minutes to dismiss the German Yannick Hanfmann, 61st in the world (6-0, 6-2) in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo, Monday April 8. The young 19-year-old Frenchman thus signs his first victory on the clay court of the Riviera, for his first participation.
He should have faced his compatriot Adrian Mannarino, 20th in the world, but the latter withdrew in the morning, allowing the lucky loser Hanfmann to enter the main draw.
