New to gardening? Here is a plant that is very easy to grow and does not require too much maintenance, the perennial geranium. Follow the advice of Roland Motte, the gardener of France Bleu Lorraine and France Bleu Besançon.

What is perennial geranium?

Perennial geraniums have nothing to do with balcony geraniums called pelargoniums. This pelargonium fears the cold while our perennial geranium can grow in the ground without fear of winter frosts. Perennial geraniums are plants native to the northern hemisphere. That is why they are so resistant to cold.

We will use them in ground cover or in mass. But it’s still a little plant. The foliage is very decorative and above all, flowering, depending on the variety, lasts from spring to autumn. Some new hybrids may even have a flowering time that will last six months.

How to maintain perennial geranium?

On the maintenance side, we are quiet. Perennial geranium adapts to all types of soil. He will prefer an exposure in partial shade rather than in the sun, it also works. For pruning, there are two periods, either in the fall, when flowering is over, or in the very beginning of spring. In either case, you are cutting very short.

After a few years, when the plant has grown well, you can even do clump division and give it to the neighbors. Perennial geranium is a very easy plant for novice gardeners. Clearly, it grows everywhere, it flowers and even the foliage is decorative.
