“People who leave an institution are a failure for the State,” reacts Renaissance MP Sacha Houlié

“All the people who leave an institution today are a failure for the State, and that’s what we want to avoid”, reacts Saturday February 3 on franceinfo Sacha Houlié, Renaissance deputy for Vienne, after the announcement on Friday of the resignation of the rector of Paris. In a letter addressed to the staff of the Paris academy, Christophe Kerrero announced his resignation, a very rare thing for one of the highest executives in National Education.

This departure comes in the wake of the suspension by the ministry of a project by the rectorate to close several preparatory classes for the start of the 2024 school year to open three others for “more social”. The Minister of National Education, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, took note of this decision, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, expressed her regrets, while the president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, deplored a “very big loss”.

“A social diversity project in Paris”

Invited this Saturday at 8:30 franceinfo, the Renaissance deputy for Vienne, Sacha Houlié, wanted to greet Christophe Kerrero, who “in addition to this project, led a social diversity project in Paris, unrivaled on alternating climbs” in colleges. Alternate climbs are a system which allows all students of the same level to be grouped together in one school in an even year, and in another school in odd years, for more diversity.

Sacha Houlié also cites the action of Christophe Kerrero “on recruitment in establishments which are internationally renowned such as Louis Le Grand or Henri IV”. Sacha Houlié believes that on these subjects, the resigning rector of Paris has “given a chance” has “the idea of ​​breaking social reproduction, giving everyone the same chance, putting an end to house arrest”depending on the school map.

Asked whether or not this resignation was another hard blow for the Minister of National Education, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Sacha Houlié replied, without ever quoting her, that he “is[t] not the trial of people” and rhetorically questions: “What is the role of school, if not to give hope and a future to all these young people who call on this institution?”
