Since the beginning of the pandemic, people have been victims of repeated infections. They have been contaminated two or even three times by Covid-19. The phenomenon remains rare but it does exist.
Sandrine Fournier, school life assistant and vaccinated, knows the Covid-19 well. Indeed, she has already had it three times, the last one ten days ago. “In December 2020, I contracted it again. There it was terrible, I stayed three weeks lying down, very tired. And then, the third time, it almost went unnoticed“, she says.
If the cases of multiple infections remain rare, they seem to multiply with Omicron. According to Public Health France, there is eight times more risk of being reinfected with the Omicron virus than with the Delta variant. For Vincent Maréchal, professor of virology, this is explained by the antibodies present in the vaccines which are no longer suitable for variants and “an inequality of individuals“, especially in the immune system.
