Elisabeth Borne summons the leaders of parliamentary groups, Wednesday, September 21, to talk about the pension reform. The unions have called on the government not to go by force.

The pension reform is back on the government table and it is a thorny, explosive project. Several avenues are under study. Should the statutory retirement age be increased? The head of state would like it to go from 62 to 63 or 64 to have assets longer and thus more income. This would represent 25 billion euros after ten years according to Bercy. “It is a measure that must be considered (…) for reasons of economic efficiency in order to finance our social model”, think Mark Ferracideputy Renaissance.

The unions have warned that they are opposed to raising the legal age. Another option is to extend the contribution period. This is already the case today. Instead of 42 years, it will take 43 years of contributions in 2035. Another scenario would mix the two measures. According to some elected representatives of the majority, this will make it possible to make the French work longer by pushing the two measures less far. Emmanuel Macron wants the pension reform to be implemented next summer.
