The program “Sunday in politics” on March 12 receives Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS. He talks about the pension reform and the recent vote that was taken in the Senate.

This is a new step in the pension reform. The senators, mostly on the right, voted for the reform wanted by the government. A vote that does not surprise Olivier Faure, pfirst secretary of the PS, opposed to this reform. THE retirement at the age of 64 had been desired for years by the Senate. But the law was not passed in the National Assembly. “With hindsight, the best thing is that this law is never voted definitively“, thinks Olivier Faure. Indeed, the deputy judges the measure senseless because the French are no longer, for the most part, active at that age.

Referendum

Olivier Faure wants a referendum on the starting age at 64. “The government remains deaf to its own people. […] The best way to avert this divide is the referendum”, he says. However, some protesters are calling for the country to be blocked in order to be heard. A blockage that scares Olivier Faure? “Nothing scares me if it serves a cause that is a just cause”, he replies. But he confides all the same that he fears violent actions over time, and “that I refuse“, maintains the deputy.
