Pension reform, energy crisis, end of life … Olivier Marleix’s “8:30 franceinfo”

Olivier Marleix, president of the Les Républicains group in the National Assembly, deputy for Eure-et-Loir, was the guest of the “8:30 a.m. franceinfo”, Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Pension reform, energy crisis, end of life … He answers questions from Marc Fauvelle and Salhia Brakhlia.

Energy crisis: “We have become energy beggars”

“We have become energy beggars”laments Olivier Marleix. “Until 2019, France was the world’s leading exporter of electricity, but because of this government’s negligence, we are now forced to beg for electricity from the Germans who, suddenly, impose a reform of the European market.”

If the member for Eure-et-Loir calls for “maintain measures to protect the purchasing power of the French” and to help French companies “who see their electricity bills multiplied by 7, 8 or 9”he estimates that “the best price shield is a price of electricity at the right price”. “In France, we produce electricity at 50 euros per megawatt hour and our companies buy it at 700 or 800 euros. It’s absolute madness!”

End of life: “We did not go to the end of the Leonetti law”

“The aspiration to die with dignity is normally satisfied by the Leonetti law”, believes Olivier Marleix. Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of a citizens’ convention on the end of life in October. The objective is to achieve a new law in 2023. “Why do you want to go further, when we have not gone to the end of the Leonetti law”he asks himself.

According to the MP, “we have tools that allow us to settle things on a case-by-case basis”. Olivier Marleix would have liked the government to take stock of the Leonetti law before acting. “I think that we are still in an approach which, in reality, is quite militant on this subject”he believes.

Pension reform: “If there is zero social dialogue, it should not be surprising that things go wrong”

“The President of the Republic must respect the social dialogue in our country as a minimum”, believes Olivier Marleix. The president of the group Les Républicains in the National Assembly reacts to the announcement of Emmanuel Macron who explained Monday evening to journalists present at the Elysee Palace to plan to pass the pension reform this fall. “He is right to want to go quickly, because our country must find a certain balance in the long term, but we still ask him to respect the social partners.”

“If there is zero social dialogue, it should not be surprising that things go wrong in terms of the social climate in the street”fears Olivier Marleix who calls on the president to “a bit of responsibility”. “We complained about it for five years, he can’t go on like this! A few days ago, he announced the creation of his National Council for Refoundation to better coordinate… The Jupiterian presidency was over and, two days later, hop! That’s it, we’re trampling everyone. He has to learn to respect the intermediary bodies.”
