Demonstrations took place everywhere in France, in particular in Paris, following the final adoption of the pension reform on the evening of Monday March 20. Gatherings marked by clashes, with several hundred arrests.

On the evening of Monday March 20, trash cans were overturned and burned by protesters in Paris. Here, as in many other cities in France, the police had to intervene on several occasions during demonstrations which followed the final adoption of the pension reform in the National Assembly. In Paris, hundreds of demonstrators, including a majority of young people, had gone to the Place de l’Opéra after the adoption of the bill.

Several hundred arrests

In Lyon (Rhône), clashes took place in the city center between demonstrators and the police, with throwing of projectiles and tear gas. The prefecture announced a dozen arrests, and a minor injury among the police. Damage also took place in Limoges (Haute-Vienne). In Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), entire streets were blocked by burning barricades. Finally, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), nearly a thousand people gathered. Several hundred people were arrested during one of the most tense nights since the protests began.
