The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Wednesday that hockey player Amanda Kessel has become the first participant in the organization’s new executive management program.

“I’m thrilled to learn from one of the best franchises in professional sports,” said Phil Kessel’s sister. The Penguins have given me the opportunity to use my experience and my love for hockey in a whole new capacity and I look forward to taking advantage of this opportunity.”
The executive management program emphasizes women and minority athletes. According to club details, this is a one-year term to work alongside managers within the Partnership, Marketing, Communications and Broadcast departments, as well as Hockey Operations. .
“Our new leadership program provides unprecedented access for women and minorities to pursue permanent leadership positions in hockey and other professional sports,” said CEO David Morehouse.
“Amanda has the experience, motivation and education to become a fantastic leader in professional sports, and we are honored to welcome her to Pittsburgh.”
The 30-year-old Kessel represented the United States at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics, winning a gold medal in 2018 and a silver medal in 2022.
She has also represented the United States at several other tournaments, including six IIHF World Championship teams, four Four Nations Cups and two Women’s Under-18 World Championships.
