Penelope Fillon resigns from the municipal council of Solesmes (Sarthe), after the judgment of the Court of Cassation confirming her conviction in the case of fictitious jobs at the National Assembly, France Bleu Maine learned from the mayor of the town, confirming information from Maine Libre.

Wednesday April 24, the Court of Cassation confirmed the sentence of François Fillon’s wife to two years in prison, a fine of 375,000 euros, and two years of ineligibility, judgment rendered by the Court of Appeal of Paris in May 2022. Penelope Fillon, who was elected from Solesmes, near Sablé-sur-Sarthe, since 2014, presented her resignation the day after the ruling of the highest court.

The resignation of Penelope Fillon is judged “regrettable” by the mayor of Solesmes Pascal Lelièvre. But he recognizes that it was “preferable”. “I lose a very invested member in the municipal council and in the different commissions on which she sat”adds the mayor.

On Wednesday April 24, the Court of Cassation also definitively confirmed the guilt of the former Prime Minister, but a new trial will take place concerning the sentences, as well as the damages awarded against him.
