Brazilian ex-legend Pele returned to hospital “to continue his treatment” of a colon tumor, announced Wednesday, December 8 the medical establishment of Sao Paulo where he had spent a month in September.

The Albert-Einstein Hospital specified in its medical bulletin that the state of health of Pelé, 81, was “stable” and that he should go out “in the next few days”. At the end of September, the same hospital had indicated that the three-time world champion would follow a “chemotherapy” to treat this tumor detected during routine examinations.

Operated on September 4, the Brazilian then spent ten days in an intensive care unit, where he returned briefly a few days later due to breathing difficulties.

That night, one of her daughters, Flavia, asked Pele fans on Instagram to be “quiet” assuring them that it is the “last visit of the year to the Einstein”. She clarified that her father was following a “treatment, control tests and chemotherapy”. “Thanks for everyone’s love … my dad is awesome”, she added.

Throughout her hospitalization, another of her daughters, Kely Nascimento, reassured fans with photos and videos showing her father, still smiling and full of humor despite apparent fatigue. Pele himself has made a few social media posts recently, one of which congratulated Argentinian Lionel Messi on his seventh Golden Ball last week.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, whose real name is, has suffered from numerous health problems in recent years, notably in 2019, when he was hospitalized in Paris and then transferred to Sao Paulo for kidney stones.
