On set, the journalist Florence Griffond takes stock of the bishops’ announcements, Monday, November 8, concerning the thorny issue of compensation for victims of pedophilia in the Church.

Under pressure since the revelations of the Sauvé report, a month ago, the 120 bishops gathered in Lourdes (Hautes-Pyrénées) had to provide a response to the 330,000 victims of sexual abuse. They first recognized the institutional responsibility of the Church and engaged Monday, November 8 to compensate the victims. Question: Will these 330,000 people be able to ask for compensation? “Yes, they will all be able to make this request, including for prescribed facts”, explains Florence Griffond in tray.

The journalist notes that victims who have not yet come forward will also be able to seek compensation. Quid the amount of compensation? “It is the new repair body that will decide”, notes Florence Griffond. Note that the bishops announced that they would finance the compensation fund by selling part of their heritage.
