(Montreal) A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in the Ville-Marie borough of Montreal on Wednesday evening.
The collision occurred around 9 p.m. in an alley near the intersection of Sherbrooke West and Mackay streets.
The victim is a 74-year-old man.
When police arrived at the scene of the accident, the pedestrian was unconscious and injured in the upper body, the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) said.
“Resuscitation maneuvers were attempted by the emergency services on site, unfortunately without success,” said spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.
The driver, a 29-year-old man, was taken to hospital suffering from nervous shock.
“According to initial information obtained from witnesses, the collision occurred while the pedestrian was already lying on the ground, for reasons that are currently unknown. The vehicle traveling in the alley did not notice his presence and hit him,” reported Mme Dubuc.
A security perimeter was erected to protect the scene.
Collision investigators are on site to try to establish the exact causes and circumstances of this fatal accident.
