The 68and world player, aged 32, thus gleans his first title on the North American circuit (PGA).
He scared himself on this 4and lap started in the “back nine”, when a double bogey committed on the N.5 came to weaken his domination four holes from the finish. But he reacted like a champion with his 6and and 7and successful birdies on the next two. The bogey conceded on the N.2 had no consequence: his card of 68 (-4) was good enough for the victory.
Totaling -19, he kept two strokes ahead of Spieth, winner of three Majors in 2015 and 2017, who only tasted victory last year at the Texas Open.
Handsome Hossler, 404and almost unknown world before this event, which occupied the lead with Hoge on Saturday, finished in 3and place at three lengths.
Patrick Cantlay, highest ranked player (4and world), could not get better than the 4and place, shared with another American, Troy Merritt.
This tournament had the particularity of taking place on three courses at the same time: the Pebble Beach Golf Links (par 72), the particularly demanding Spyglass Hill (par 72), and the Monterey Peninsula (par 71).
