(Montreal) The president of the FTQ, Daniel Boyer, warns voters against the “two retrograde parties” that are the conservative parties of Éric Duhaime and Pierre Poilievre, affirming that if the latter is brought to power during the next federal election, it will attack social programs and unions.
The president of the trade union center of more than 600,000 members delivered his opening speech on Monday, on the occasion of the 33e FTQ convention taking place this week.
Mr. Boyer presented the Conservative Parties of Quebec and Canada as parties which have succeeded in “channeling the anger of discontented people of all stripes” and which could reinforce each other.
As for the public sector, as negotiations begin, the president of the FTQ also warned that “Quebec will hit a wall” if wages and working conditions are not significantly improved there. .
These public service workers are “out of breath” and the shortage is hitting several trades and professions, he said. But the government, with its offer of 9% over five years tabled in December, seemed to send “to hell with the guardian angels”, argued Mr. Boyer.
