Payment of CAP aid arouses tension among farmers
Anger among farmers: payment of CAP aid arouses tension
(France 2)
In response to agricultural anger, the government committed to paying aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on March 15. But the measure is slow to come into force for all farmers.
The mobilization continues. In Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), farmers are carrying out blocking actions in front of a TotalEnergies oil site. The latter are demanding a reduction in fuel tax and payment of aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). “We are being told about a software problem. (…) This is resolved quickly. Would we do this for civil servants?”deplores the president of the Landes Rural Coordination, Olivier de Ginestet.
7.6 billion euros already paid
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, 7.6 billion euros have already been paid since the start of the agricultural crisis out of the 8.6 billion euros in aid planned. However, some farmers have not yet received the payment. Farmer Mathieu Maronese, member of Young Farmers, says he is expecting aid of 3,000 euros, or 10% of his CAP. “This is part of my cash flow that I need to pay my suppliers.”he explains.
