Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Thursday March 7, 2024. Unequal pay between women and men, government savings plan, threat of strikes during the Olympic Games Paris 2024… She answered questions from Salhia Brakhlia and Jérôme Chapuis.
Equal pay: the Pénicaud index is a “vast smokescreen”
For Sophie Binet, the Pénicaud index, created in 2018 and which makes it possible to measure professional equality between women and men, is a “vast smoke” which allows businesses “to clear your name, since 99.99% of companies have a good rating”, even when they are not virtuous on gender inequalities. He has even “was built for this”estimates the general secretary of the CGT.
She calls for “modify this index in depth” with “Sanctions” for employers who do not play the game of equal pay, so that the index “can play his role”. For her, if there is no sanction, “It’s as if we limited speed on the highways, but there were no radars, no police and no fines to punish drivers”.

She recalls in particular that the first law on equal pay was passed in 1972, “but if we do nothing, we will have to wait until 2186 to have equal pay”. The CGT is therefore calling for a strike, Friday March 8, and a demonstration, “to finally demand equality.”
Reduction of expenses: “taking from the poor to give to the rich”
Bruno Le Maire “it’s Robin Hood in reverse”quips Sophie Binet, “it’s taking from the poor to give to the rich, it’s cutting into public services and social spending to reduce taxes on big businesses and taxes on the richest”. The boss of the CGT reacts to the plan to reduce public spending announced by the Minister of the Economy. Bruno Le Maire “is very poorly placed to teach us a lesson”she tackles, “because he has been at Bercy for seven years, and in seven years, France’s debt has increased by a third, by 800 billion”.
“Our system is too generous for businesses, there are 200 billion each year that are given in aid, without compensation, to businesses. It’s a third of the state budget.”

Sophie Binet also criticizes the new measures announced in the new unemployment insurance reform, particularly concerning older workers. “Seniors are treated like Kleenex and are fired by the thousands from companies”she fumes, “the government must stop waging this war on seniors, it’s scandalous”.
Paris 2024: the Games must be “prepared from a social point of view”
“The government must take stock of the social challenge of the Games and make appropriate decisions”alerts Sophie Binet, who maintains pressure on the government, requesting a meeting at Matignon to “that the games are prepared from a social point of view”.
“We’ve been repeating the same thing for months and no one cares. It’s starting to get very tiring.”
