World champions together in 2018, Paul Pogba and Benjamin Mendy have, it seems, remained on good terms. Friday July 14, a few hours after the French defender was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape by British justice, Paul Pogba sent him a message on social networks. “So happy for you bro… All the people that used to talk bad about you, now I want to see them clear your name. I can’t wait to see you back on the pitch.” wrote the tricolor midfielder of Juventus Turin.

As a reminder, if they have never worn the same jersey in a club as a professional, the two men were trained in Le Havre, before seeing their destinies meet again in the France team, in particular during the coronation of 2018. Paul Pogba is for the moment the only player of the Blues who has openly supported Benjamin Mendy, without a club since June 30. But his message was also approved in comments by Samuel Umtiti or even Mamadou Sakho.

“What shall we do now ?”

The Turinese is however not the only professional player in this case. Earlier in the evening, the Dutchman Memphis Depay, a former OL player, also reacted on his Twitter account, and wondered about the future of Benjamin Mendy: “All charges dismissed. So what do we do now? Who’s going to help our brother recover? Who’s going to blame the damage on his name? How is he going to get his career back?”

And the Batavian striker adds: “Many years of investment to become a professional footballer… And now what!? I never talked about it because I didn’t know all the details, but I spoke to him on FaceTime once when he was behind bars and I confronted him on the court several times. We cannot allow such things to happen to us as athletes.” An intervention hailed by several footballers, including Bosnian Miralem Pjanic and Englishman Jack Grealish who deemed it “true” while ex-defender Rio Ferdinand commented “clear and clear” under the publication.
