Management announced on Tuesday that the establishment would be closed for an indefinite period.
A recent Court of Appeal ruling ordered the well-known establishment on Rue Papineau to stop all amplified noise that extends beyond its walls and onto its terrace following complaints from the owner of the neighbouring building, Pierre-Yves Beaudoin.
This whole affair is rooted in an erroneous decision by the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough administration, which authorized the conversion of commercial premises into housing when the regulations did not allow it.
Let’s call it the dictatorship of the neighbor. […] You have a performance hall, you can’t make noise. Apart from doing a mime act, what do you want to do in the circumstances? The people at La Tulipe can’t do anything. Zero decibels.
