Between rap and lyricism
Among the special screenings offered during the Harvest of the 7th Art, there was a feature film which has had enormous success since its release on May 4: Tenor, a film full of poetry and drama too.
This is the story of Antoine who delivers sushi, at the same time as he studies accounting, at the same time as he does rap… and his meeting with Madame Loyseau, a singing teacher at the ‘Garnier opera. How will this young man succeed in interweaving the two worlds? A very strong film by Claude Zidi Junior who chose an experienced, talented and surprising actress in this female role: Michèle Laroque and a young singer who definitely has several strings to his bow: Mohammed Belkhir known as MB14.
For this film, he was looking to reveal a talent. This talent, they discovered it with his producer while listening to The Voice on a Saturday evening. Captivated by MB14’s performance, they offered him the script. He accepts, but, for technical and sanitary reasons, 4 years pass between the moment he says “yes” and the moment of filming. Finally the film comes out… A feat for this now actor/singer who was entitled to 2 months of coaching in opera singing to make the film!
The result is amazing, the public is there and the film is screened in France for weeks and weeks.
My obsession is to please the public… They are taken hostage when they come to the cinema, they have to feel good. – Claude Zidi Junior
