Patrick Sébastien and the brutal death of his son at 19: this very daring joke that was made to him

Patrick Sébastien experienced one of the greatest misfortunes of a parent: that of losing his son, Sébastien. Father and son share the same passion: that of two wheels and motorcycles. But the cars, the TV host will love them as much as he will hate them. In 1990, at only 19 years old, Sébastien was the victim of a serious accident on a road in the Camargue. He won’t give her a chance. Losing a child doesn’t make sense. However, Patrick Sébastien did not let himself be defeated. The same evening, he went on stage anyway as if to prove to his son that life goes on and that despite his departure, Patrick Sébastien will continue to live for two.

In the columns of Free lunchwhose readers he met on the occasion of the release of his autobiography Live and be reborn every day, Patrick Sébastien returned to this sad episode of his life which he can now laugh about today. But in reality, he was already showing humor on the very day of his son’s disappearance, according to the very surprising reaction he had after a daring joke from a friend on the subject: “The evening of my son’s death on the Grand-Travers road, my secretary said to me: ‘I’m sorry but your son imitated Coluche better than you [Coluche est mort dans un accident de moto en 1986, ndlr]’.” Where many would have taken the reflection badly, Patrick Sébastien welcomed it rather well: “He could, and that was what you had to tell me at the time” he explains to Free lunch.

I got it when I was 16

This is not the first time that Patrick Sébastien evokes the death of the boy he had with Martine, his love of youth. a year ago for seven to eightNana’s former companion spoke of the relationship they had and the daily pain hidden behind a facade smile: “We were very close. We were only 16 years apart. I got it when I was 16. He wanted a motorcycle. Besides, he was quite careful. It was night, it was summer. He was driving fast. It’s part of my life. We tattooed that every day. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my son, of course.”

Father of three other children, Olivier, 41, Benjamin, the 31-year-old son he had with Fanfan and Lily, 15, adopted with Nana, Patrick Sébastien cares for them. But he does not hide that since the death of Sébastien, life is no longer the same: “We don’t choose. Either we sink, or we continue to live, and we are obliged to continue to live for the other children. For all that. It’s not even courage. It’s survival. When you’re drowning, the passing stick, you grab it and try to get out. Me, I am in survival. I died with him.“He can nevertheless console himself with Marie-Andréa, his granddaughter born only five months after the tragic accident of his dad.
