Patrick Sabatier: His life turned upside down by a heavy family secret

on September 21, Patrick Sabatier will be back in the spotlight. Not with a new show but with the release of a book called The letter. This is a novel strongly inspired by his own life. In addition to having made his main character a popular TV host, he imagined him the existence of a half-brother discovered late. And that’s exactly what happened to the figure of France 2.

Indeed, through the pages of his book, Patrick Sabatier recounts the incredible and intense secret of his family. To know that his mother had a son before him, which he ignored for a number of years. “It would be almost banal. It happens in lots of families. What is astonishing is the way in which this secret was unveiled, via a letter, hence the title of the book. A heartbreaking letter that a woman came to give me. And again, those who read the book will discover that the story turned out to be even more incredible than that! But motus… I’m revealing a family secret with drawers“, he teased during an interview for Pocket TVreleased this Monday, September 19.

Patrick Sabatier also reveals part of the circumstances of this secret, namely the chaotic journey of his mother. “She was orphaned, dragged from Italy to France and married too early. When her ex-husband lets off steam on her, she has no bearings. When they take her child away, she thinks she just doesn’t deserve to keep it“, we learn. The latter therefore never sought to recover her child. Thanks to the host and her fortuitous discovery, she was finally able to meet him after fifty years. “When I make them meet, I am as upset as they are. I see this man who opens the door and says to her: ‘Hello mum’. This moment then belongs to my mother“, he reported. And to continue: “Things were very simple. He told me about his life. He was quite laid back with me. We watched each other, we sniffed each other. Mom and him had time to find each other. Unfortunately, they died six months apart from the same disease.“.

With this book, Patrick Sabatier reconciles himself with the past and above all pays tribute to his mother, this woman who was sadly “accustomed to misfortune“.
