Patrick Roy (still) feeds the rumor machine

It doesn’t take much for Patrick Roy’s name to activate the rumor mill.

On Wednesday, reports that Roy had been seen at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard the day before ignited social media. Images of his car, visibly parked in Brossard, taken by an amateur, circulated on Twitter and several sites took the opportunity to start rumours.

Rumors that Roy dismissed out of hand on Wednesday morning.

“It doesn’t take much [pour que les médias sociaux s’enflamment], obviously. I went to dinner with my son Frédérick in Brossard and after that I just went to say hello to Kent Hughes [directeur général du CH] with whom I have always had a good relationship. I went to say hello to him and left, ”he simply explained.

Not ready to go

Speaking of rumours, those about his future with the Quebec Remparts are likely to spill more ink as the season progresses. Last week, Roy lost assistant GM and head scout Christian Vermette, who took a job as a regional scout for the Edmonton Oilers.

The Red Devils hockey boss has therefore begun his process of hiring a replacement and he has already met a few candidates, he admitted on Wednesday.

Asked whether he was looking for a hockey man who could possibly take on the role of GM of the Remparts in the event that he decided to leave the junior team at the end of the campaign, Roy was categorical: he does not intend to retire completely at the end of the season.

“I involve Simon [Gagné] in the process because I want him to be comfortable working with this person if he decides to pursue. However, my plan is to come back with the Remparts and accompany Simon. People tell me this is going to be my last year. Chances are, but that’s if Simon wants to take over. If he doesn’t want to, we’ll have to think about another scenario which may involve me staying behind the bench. I have to be careful how I speak. Sometimes I can speak from both sides of the mouth. »
