Patrick Bruel is one of the first European artists to visit us on this side of the Atlantic since the pandemic. “Singing and being on stage, I like it more and more,” admits the man who came to announce the dates of his tour of 12 “acoustic” shows in Quebec in May.
At 62 and in his 37-year career, Patrick Bruel has lost none of his desire and his need to be on stage. In fact, the pandemic stop allowed him to think and realize that he would never leave the scene.
“This feeling of finding theaters, of finding people, it showed me how essential they were,” explains the one who has been walking on the roads of France with his show “in acoustics” since September. “Now I know that quitting or retiring is not possible. The fact of no longer singing on stage, of no longer doing what I love the most, I would live badly. I realized that I will never decide to stop. “
This new show carried by a small team of 14 people, the triple vaccinated singer describes it as very pure and conceived in such a way as to present an open book Patrick Bruel, as we have never seen him before.
“It opens like a flower, explains the one who will visit the spectators in smaller rooms than usual. The end is really very pretty, everyone is in tears, me too for that matter. The idea is to bring the words back to what they really are. “
The post-pandemic
The artist, who contracted COVID-19, “was scared to the point of thinking of contacting the Emergency Department” and spent five weeks at home alone during the pandemic, says that this time out imposed on him, ultimately, does the greatest good. This will have allowed him to take stock of his life and to work on his next album, the release of which scheduled for two weeks has been postponed to next spring “because it is not quite finished”.
“There is a sense of urgency and unique moments that we won’t relive,” he says. This episode of our lives challenged us on many things: a return to essential values, to daily tasks, another listening to nature and others. It taught us a lot, about our relationship to loneliness, silence, death. It was very concrete, it brings us back to the fragility of who we are and the urgency to say beautiful things to each other. “
It is driven by this urgency to say beautiful things that he will return in May to this Quebec that he considers a second home. A return visibly expected, if we are to rely on the just announced sale of tickets already going well. As for the health rules (which may be called upon to change by next May) requiring the wearing of masks for Quebec spectators, the artist promises that this will in no way taint the happiness of the reunion.
