Patrick Balkany, 73, will be released on parole, without an electronic bracelet. The former MP will leave Fleury-Mérogis prison (Essonne) on Wednesday, his lawyers said, Robin Bindard and Romain Dieudonné, Monday, May 30, to AFP. The end of the nut was originally scheduled for April 2023.

“He clearly became aware of his shortcomings during the previous sentence adjustment measure, shortcomings sanctioned by a new incarceration which was difficult to bear”, mentions the court decision consulted by AFP. In addition, the judge considers that the former mayor of Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine) has “set up, jointly with his wife, since February, monthly payments totaling 1,300 euros for the purpose of settling the sums due to the tax authorities for the offenses committed”.

Patrick Balkany will join his mansion in Giverny (Eure). He must respond to summonses from the Evreux sentence enforcement judge and receive visits from the prison integration and probation service.

Patrick Balkany was imprisoned on Monday February 7. After spending five months in detention for tax evasion and then being released on electronic bracelet for health reasons, he was returned to jail because of numerous breaches of its obligations, according to justice. The prosecution of Evry, which was unfavorable to this adjustment of sentence, can appeal.

With his wife, Isabelle Balkany, they must be retried in October in the case of laundering tax fraud. Already convicted of this offence, thehe only issue of this deadline will be the quantum of their sentences, after a decision of the Court of Cassation.
