In Strasbourg, patients are forced to be treated in the parking lot, for lack of places. This is particularly the case at the Strasbourg University Hospital where the emergencies are saturated, due to a lack of beds.

Dozens of ambulances are lined up in the parking lot of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). It is over 30 degrees this June 5th. Patients wait in the various trucks before being seen by a doctor. Faced with congested emergencies, caregivers had to organize waiting for vehicles. “What has already happened is that due to the deterioration of the situation in the vehicle, a medical team came to see what was going on“, specifies Christian Prud’hommemale nurse.

Closure of many beds

A Video taken on June 22, 2023 shows ambulances lining up early in the day. Tuesday, June 27 at 10 a.m., the emergency room shows 140% occupancy. The cause ? The closure of many beds which prevents patients from being taken care of. A pensioner waited more than 24 hours on a stretcher two years ago. “I felt left out. And after, we accept it, because we have no choice”, he says. The direction of the hospital did not wish to react.
