Passenger traffic soars at Montreal-Trudeau Airport

A sign that the airline industry is recovering, the number of passengers at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is getting closer and closer to pre-pandemic levels, according to new data published by Aéroports de Montréal (ADM), on the occasion of the unveiling of its financial results for the third quarter of 2022.

From July to September, the number of passengers passing through Montréal-Trudeau airport rose to 5.4 million, the equivalent of nearly 90% of the traffic in 2019 at the same time.

The airport therefore almost returned to its pre-pandemic traffic this summer, after two anemic years. During the summer of 2020, approximately 610,000 passengers traveled through Montréal-Trudeau, and nearly 2 million the following summer.

In all, for the first nine months of the year, traffic amounted to just over 11.6 million passengers, the equivalent of around 73% of 2019 traffic over the same period. i.e. from January to the end of September.

Financial results

Thanks to the significant upturn in air traffic, Aéroports de Montréal recorded revenues of nearly $200 million in the third quarter of the current year — results up by approximately $115 million compared to the same period last year.

After expenses are subtracted from its revenue, the nonprofit recorded a surplus of $38 million this quarter. At the same time last year, it posted a loss of 42 million.
