Pascal Siakam dominating against Spurs

With 37 points, Pascal Siakam helped the Toronto Raptors win 112-98 against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at Scotiabank Arena.

The power winger added seven assists, as well as 11 rebounds.

The home favorites took the lead in the dying seconds of the first half and never looked back, keeping their distance from the opposition’s attacks.

It’s a third straight win for Nick Nurse’s squad, which is now 6-4 in the last 10 games.

Montrealer Chris Boucher was also an important player in this gain with 18 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.

He was the second best scorer of the Canadian formation. His teammates Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. followed closely with 16 and 15 points respectively.

Keldon Johnson was Spurs’ leading player in the losing cause with 22 points. Far behind, Josh Richardson, Doug McDermott and Jakob Poeltl finished the game with 14, 13 and 12 points.

The Raptors’ next game is Friday in Toronto against the Utah Jazz.

Mathurin little used

In Miami, Bennedict Mathurin had a match like his start to February: discreet. The Quebecer had just two points in the Indiana Pacers’ 116-111 loss to the Heat.

In four games this month, the Montrealer has only crossed the 10-point plateau once. By comparison, it only hit double digits once in January.

It must be said that Mathurin was not helped much by head coach Rick Carlisle. As the Pacers trailed in the second half, he practically glued the 20-year-old to the bench.

The full-back spent just 13 minutes on the court, adding two assists to his tally.

Guard Tyrese Haliburton, who will represent the Pacers in the NBA All-Star Game, was rather quiet offensively with 11 points. He left the reins of the attack to Buddy Hield (27 points) and Myles Turner (23 points).

At the Heat, Bam Adebayo led the show with 38 points. He too will participate in the annual classic in about ten days.

Indiana has won just two of its last 15 games. The team will return home Friday to host the Phoenix Suns at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
