Between them, it had started with “The ten Commandments”… As a superb Moses, Daniel Lévi raised the notes very high. A divine voice. Pascal Obispo, writing him the song The desire to love, had changed his fate. The title, which has become a classic, had sold more than a million copies.
In the columns of Parisianthe singer-songwriter recalls: “I remember trying it on the piano. I thought it was just pretty. Then Daniel recorded it and then something happened. In the studio, you had to calm down your enthusiasm (…) And today today this song is in all the evenings a bit like Les lacs du Connemara by Sardou. And it is Daniel who bore this title. No one is able to sing it like him”. Daniel Lévi had literally captivated the singer: “He arrived with his plaid shirt at the casting. I had chosen a difficult song, L’hymne à l’amour, for the candidates. When we heard it, we said to ourselves: ‘What a voice! And to continue under the influence of emotion: “I worked with great artists like Johnny Hallyday, Florent Pagny. But Daniel alone had all the qualities of all the great singers (…) He was a performer. During The Ten Commandments, people said he never interpreted The Desire to Love the same way every night.
A bond of respect and fraternity had been woven between them over the years. And, curiously, Pascal Obispo reveals a kind of premonition… “I thought of his wife Sandrine. It was strange this Saturday (August 6). I am, like many people, on vacation in the sun. This is the time when you laze around and say to yourself: ‘Here , him, I will call him.’ I left a message for Sandrine in the afternoon. And I learned of Daniel’s death a little later. I’m also thinking of the entire Ten Commandments team. We called each other other Saturday nights”, he explained. Like what these two artists were really connected by talent but also perhaps to something superior.
