Pascal Danel, the singer of “The Snows of Kilimandjaro” died at the age of 80

Yéyé singer Pascal Danel, performer of Snows of Kilimanjarotube of the years 1960, died at 80 years, announced Thursday 25 July his entourage to the AFP. “He died last night in hospital”his agent Christian Jaume told AFP. His son Jean-Pierre Danel also confirmed his death.He had an operation and suffered a heart attack.”

The singer, born in 1944, started singing as a guitarist and singer in a rock band. A songwriter, he composed a first hit The Beach for Romantics in 1966, which found success in Europe, as well as in Brazil, Canada and Japan, before switching to yéyés.

At the end of 1966, he released The Snows of Kilimanjarohis biggest hit, recorded in six languages ​​and which flowed to more than 25 million copies. The title is inspired by a short story by Hemingway and will appear in the film by Robert Guédiguian entitled The Snows of Kilimanjaro.

His hits brought him tours, appearances at the Olympia and television shows. At the end of the 1980s, 1960, he discovered a certain Laurent Voulzy, who became his conductor and arranger (notably on the “Kilimanjaro“).

“He played at balls. I met him at a concert and asked him to become my guitarist. He arranged my albums and became my conductor. We got on very well.”Pascal Danel confided to the newspaper The Parisian in 2015. In the years 1980, he produced television shows : “Cadence 3″ on FR3, then “Macadam”.
