The Quebec Association of Theater Critics (AQCT) announced, last Monday, the winners of its Critics’ Prize, among the plays presented in Montreal in 2021 and 2022. The documentary theater play Not Lost – Scenic Documentariesby Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette and Émile Proulx-Cloutier, was crowned show of the year.
Émile Proulx-Cloutier, who is the director, was also nominated for the prize for directing. It was finally Angela Konrad who won it, for Vernon Subutexan adaptation of the novel of the same name by Virginie Despentes, which was presented last summer at Usine C. This piece was in the running for the prize for show of the year.
Julie Le Breton won the prize for best female interpretation, for her role in The Ten Commandments by Dorothy Dixby Stéphanie Jasmin, directed by Denis Marleau, at Espace Go. The prize for Best Actor was awarded to Roger La Rue, for his role in Rita in the desertby Isabelle Leblanc, which was presented in winter 2021 at the Théâtre de Quat’Sous.
Pierre-Étienne Locas won the prize for best designer for his design of the decor of Metamorphosis, by Claude Poissant, after Franz Kafka, presented at the Théâtre Denise-Pelletier. Simon Boudreault walks away with the prize for the best original text, for I am a productfrom a residency at La Licorne. Woodby Csaba Raduly and Pavla Mano, won the prize for best show for young audiences.
The AQCT has nearly forty members working in fifteen media outlets in Montreal and Quebec. The Critics’ Prizes have been awarded every year since 1985, in Quebec City and Montreal, following a vote by members. The Quebec City awards were presented last November.
