The centrist senator of Pas-de-Calais Catherine Fournier died of the consequences of a long illness, on the night of Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 December, announced the centrist group in the Senate. Elected to the upper house in 2017, she was 66 years old. “Very committed to her region, deeply human, Catherine Fournier always worked with kindness”, wrote the centrist group on its Twitter account.

The senator was a member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and had notably been chair of the special committee on the Pact bill for the growth and transformation of enterprises. Regional councilor of Hauts-de-France, Catherine Fournier had also been mayor of Fréthun.

“In Fréthun, in the Senate and since 2016 at the regional council, Catherine Fournier’s commitment was for the people. Today our region has lost a passionate person, a great lady, a voice that counted on the coast and well beyond “, declared the president of Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand. The centrist Senator from the North Valérie Létard paid tribute to “a remarkable woman, deeply human, competent, endearing, very courageous”. According to her, she “will have worked a lot for his town of Fréthun, his territory of Calaisis and for economic development”.
