Météo-France added Pas-de-Calais to the list of departments on orange alert due to bad weather, Saturday October 28. Nine coastal departments are now concerned. Finistère, Morbihan, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, Charente-Maritime and Pas-de-Calais are on alert due to the risk of waves-submersion, from Saturday afternoon. An orange flood alert is also in progress for Finistère, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

This vigilance is linked to “an episode of strong waves in a context of high tides requiring particular vigilance”specifies Météo-France. The combination of high sea levels and strong breaking waves could cause submersion by crossing sea waves or overflowing on the promenade sea walls and exposed quays, during high tides on Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening.adds the organization.

Six departments will also remain affected by orange vigilance on Sunday. Pas-de-Calais will be on “wave-submersion” alert, while Finistère, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques will be on orange alert for floods.
