(Ottawa) The Sûreté du Québec intends to ensure that influencers returning to Canada do indeed follow their quarantine.

The police force “proactively contacted the Public Health Agency of Canada” to obtain their contact details in order to follow up, revealed the federal Minister of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos, on Friday at a press conference for take stock of the pandemic.

According to the latest update, 27 of the 130 passengers on the Sunwing flight had returned to the country on Wednesday on four different flights. “They were awaited firmly at the two airports where they arrived,” said Mr. Duclos.

They were intercepted at the air border for questioning, had to be tested for COVID-19 and submit a quarantine plan.

The health measures violation files have been transferred to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions, who will have to follow up. Transport Canada’s investigation into non-compliance with aviation safety rules continues.

“These are actions that are irresponsible, inexcusable and unacceptable at the same time,” said Mr. Duclos.

The young passengers took the Toronto-based Sunwing charter flight on December 30 to the Cancun area in Mexico. Images posted on social media show people dancing without masks in mid-flight, passengers vaping and passing a large bottle of vodka.
