Party at the museum | La Presse

A premiere evening at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, as last week we inaugurated the festive Wednesdays, where the pedestrian Avenue du Musée becomes the scene of all possibilities, for the duration of a summer.

The Museum is still offering five evenings of partying on the avenue that borders it. Mark your calendars: next week, on Wednesday, July 17, it will be the turn of the singer and guitarist of the group Suuns, Ben Shemie, to get the spectators dancing. They announce a “psychedelic and dreamlike universe combining electronic music and experimental pop.” He will be accompanied by DJ Raven.

There is no charge to participate in the museum’s festive evenings. Activities generally begin at 5 p.m. and musical performances are spread out throughout the evening. The crowd mixes with tourists who happen to be there by chance, artists who take the opportunity to sketch, and museum visitors. And the smart ones who had planned ahead!

DJ Sugarface BelFo was also there last Wednesday. There will not only be music during these special evenings, but also cinema – but later in the season, to have a little darkness at the beginning of the evening. On Wednesday, September 4, we will present Closeby Lukas Dhont, winner of the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, which addresses the theme of diversity with great humanity.

The crowd that was present at the first evening clearly enjoyed the show a lot. We recommend Wednesday, August 14th when rapper Emma Beko will be there. Big advantage of this formula: you can take risks and get out of your cultural comfort zone!

It was the Montreal firm NIPPAYSAGE that transformed Avenue du Musée into a relaxation area this summer, accessible at all times. You can enjoy the sculpture garden there. On festive evenings, we add a bar service, or popcorn for the outdoor movie night!

The museum also offers outdoor guided tours – one on Wednesday, July 10. Visitors tour the pavilions with museum guides, who introduce the works and public art surrounding the facility. There are three more tours scheduled: July 24, August 7 and August 21. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is available to all general admission ticket holders.

Last reminder, essential! There are not only musicians at the Museum of Fine Arts this summer, there are also… the Flemish! Vice, Virtue, Desire, Madness: Three Centuries of Flemish Masterpieces is on display until October. The exhibition presents in a surprising way the works of this distant era, but which seem incredibly contemporary. Disturbing.
