The draw for the 150 citizens who will form the citizens’ convention on the end of life is launched on Tuesday, October 25, indicates the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (Cese) in a press release. This drawing of lots, with the aim “to identify 150 volunteer citizens representative of the diversity of French society”will be realized “from randomly generated phone numbers (85% mobile and 15% landline)”specifies the Cese.

Emmanuel Macron had announced, on September 13, the organization of a citizens’ convention on the end of life. The governance committee of this agreement “has decided to retain six recruitment criteria” what are “sex, age, types of urban area, region of origin, level of education and socio-professional category”. “Special attention will be paid to the most precarious audiences and overseas, whose recruitment may prove more difficult”also specifies the Cese.

“The draw should end at the beginning of December, before the installation of the Citizens’ Convention on the end of life on December 9, 10 and 11 at the Cese”, he also says. This agreement “will meet nine times between December and March, before submitting its conclusions to the government at the end of March 2023”.

Important clarification, the Cese will compensate the citizens drawn by lot to participate in the work. As to “transport, accommodation and catering costs”they “will also be taken care of, and a childcare allowance will be put in place”.
