Immigration law: part of the political class outraged by the decision of the Constitutional Council
Immigration law: part of the political class outraged by the decision of the Constitutional Council – (France info)
24 hours after the decision of the Constitutional Council, which largely censored the immigration law with 35 articles rejected totally or partially, Emmanuel Macron intends to quickly promulgate what remains of the text. But how do the French perceive and analyze this decision?
On Thursday January 25, the Constitutional Council censored nearly 40% of the articles of the immigration law. Among the Wise Men, two former Prime Ministers, Alain Juppé and Laurent Fabius. Under fire from criticism since yesterday, the latter responds to those who question the integrity of the Sages. “The Council is there not to provide political services, but to make a legal decision”he declared on France Inter, Friday morning.
A referendum on immigration demanded by the right
When this partial censorship was announced, Gérald Darmanin was pleased that the text retained the initial structure desired by the government. The right, which has seen all its articles rebutted, is crying scandal. Laurent Wauquiez even speaks of a “coup d’état de jure”. He is calling for a referendum on immigration, just like the National Rally.
