Parking apps
Have you just arrived in town and don’t want to bother looking? Several parking applications are there to help you find the best spaces, at the best prices (Spot Hero, Best Parking, etc.), often at a reduced rate. They are easy to use: simply enter an address, a neighborhood, and the parking lots appear on the screen, photos included. You can compare and go to the highest bidder (tip: moving a bit further away generally saves a few pennies, but Manhattan remains overpriced, be warned). You can even reserve a space online (not just in New York, by the way, but in several cities), in advance, if you like. Please note that a surcharge is generally required for larger vehicles.

Park outside Manhattan
If you want to avoid the New York jungle and gain peace of mind, parking outside Manhattan is a wise idea, especially in New Jersey, especially since you risk finding spaces that are either free or certainly less expensive. expensive while avoiding various tolls. Personally, we like Jersey City, near the Metropark, which allows you to get to Manhattan quickly by train (via the Path, at $2.75 per ticket). To find the best spaces, search with the applications mentioned above!
Hotel discounts
If you are keen to enter Manhattan and have booked a hotel in the city, it may be worth seeing the discounts offered here. Your hotel may have great deals ($20-$25 off daily guest coupons), which often rival the best prices found nearby. To be checked !
Finding a place on the street, mission impossible?
Not necessarily. Certainly, the indications and other contraindications are not exactly easy to decipher in New York. But it is nevertheless possible to park on the street, at least on certain days and at certain times. If by chance you come across a place, you still need to make sure you are entitled to it (before buying a lottery ticket!). To have a clear idea, the site and the application Smooth Parking is a wealth of resources, showing times and durations of restrictions, with a simple color guide. Red: prohibited. Green: permitted. And yellow (and that’s what you should aim for): soon to be allowed! Good to know: on Sundays and public holidays (including various religious holidays of all kinds), all restrictions are suspended in New York. Better: even the parking terminals are free. To find out if there’s a party or not (and believe us, there are plenty), subscribe to the X account “NYC Alt Side Parking”, which specifies twice a day whether the bans are in force or No.
