Will rent control be better respected in 2023 in Paris? It is in any case the objective of the City which from next January 1 “will have the ability to control” direct compliance with this measure recalled this Tuesday Ian Brossat, the housing assistant of the mayor of Paris on France Bleu Paris. Last March, the Council of Paris had voted for the City to recover this competence in order to carry out checks in place of the Prefecture of Police.
“Too many landlords, especially on very small surfaces, charge absolutely crazy rents”, denounces Ian Brossat. The elected official therefore wishes to strengthen control of the rent framework and enforce the rule put in place since July 1, 2019. “We can’t get used to the fact that a third of landlords today are fraudulent”launches the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of housing. “The role of the City of Paris is to ensure that the rules are respected”.
“The role of public power is to manage for the general interest and the general interest is that young people, students, workers, the middle classes, those who run this city, can live in Paris” , continued Ian Brossat. “If you are in the nails, no problem, if you are not in the nails, you will have a fine which can go up to 5,000 euros”he says.
