The Paris town hall denounced, Wednesday January 10, the closure, planned according to it by the rectorate, of 125 classes in first level at the next school year. “This is very bad news at the start of the year: 150 closures have already been announced for the first degree”, said Mayor Anne Hidalgo, during her greetings at City Hall. Contacted by AFP, his deputy (PS) for Education Patrick Bloche specifies that the rectorate actually plans a balance of “125 fewer classes, because there will undoubtedly be 25 openings” at the same time. The rectorate has not yet confirmed these figures.

As of December 21, the primary school teachers’ union SNUipp-FSU Paris also denounced the fact that “of the 650 positions eliminated nationally, 125 (would) withdrawn from the Paris Academy at the start of the next school year”. The 2023 school year had already seen the elimination of 155 teaching positions in primary schools, leading to the net closure of a comparable number of classes, and 182 positions in middle and high schools. “These class closures in schools or colleges represent the equivalent of the closure of 19 primary schools and three middle schools”deplored the Paris Council in June.
