Paris Saga: Moulinex

It all started in Bagnolet in 1932, Jean Mantelet does not like lumps in the mash prepared by his wife. In his metal stamping factory, he will design the first “potato masher” stainless steel, conical with a single blade in the shape of a propeller, a device accessible to everyone and which is useful, in short Moulinex, as the advertisement said “liberates women”.

After the Second World War, all French homes were equipped with Moulinex, the brand became a giant in the sector. The Bagnolet factory is running at full speed and other production sites in France and abroad now manufacture electric coffee makers, food processors, toasters, waffle makers, in short all the small household appliances that have become essential to the comfort of home.

Later, Moulinex extended its range: refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, while the first “potato masher” was rejuvenated by electricity.

Jean Mantelet, creator of Moulinex, without descendants decides to sell 28% of the capital of Moulinex to his employees, before bow out at 90 in 1991.

Badly prepared, Moulinex without Jean Mantelet sinks into the mash, the company is taken over by other giants of household appliances and the Bagnolet factory has become a condominium building, only the main door of the company remains featuring the world famous logo…
