Paris Paralympic Games | Kate O’Brien wins paracycling bronze

Kate O’Brien delivered Canada’s first medal of the Paris Paralympic Games by winning bronze in track cycling.

The 36-year-old Albertan finished third in the C4-5 500-metre time trial at the Velodrome, finishing behind Caroline Groot of the Netherlands and Marie Patouillet of France, in that order.

O’Brien won silver at his first career Paralympic Games three years ago in Tokyo, Japan.

She also represented Canada at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

After suffering a crash and multiple injuries, including a brain injury, in 2017, the Calgary athlete made the jump to paracycling.

She won two silver medals in the time trial at the Para-cycling World Championships.
