Paris inaugurates a rue David-Bowie, who would have been 77 years old on Monday

The City of Paris is immortalizing British music legend David Bowie by giving his name to a street in the 13th arrondissement, on the occasion of what would have been his 77th birthday on Monday.

The inauguration of rue David-Bowie was first announced in 2020 by Jérôme Coumet, mayor of the district. Bowie died of cancer in 2016.

The new street, located between two modern office buildings, including the daily headquarters The world and the magazine The Obsopens onto avenue Pierre-Mendès-France.

This tribute highlights David Bowie’s first performance in Paris in 1965 – his first outside the UK – and his lasting impact on music, fashion and culture.

Bowie’s influence on music, with hits like Space Oddity And Let’s Dancebut also on fashion, is now definitely recognized in the urban landscape of Paris.
