Paris FC can still believe in participating in the group stage of the Champions League. During its first leg of the 2nd qualifying round, the Ile-de-France club drew against Wolfsburg (3-3), Tuesday October 10, at the Charléty stadium. Far from being favorites against the German club, unfortunate finalists of the last edition of the competition, Sandrine Soubeyrand’s players had a solid match but were unable to contain captain Alexandra Popp, who scored two headed goals for Wolfsburg.

In front of the 3,257 supporters present at Charléty, out of 20,000 seats available, the PFC players led twice, despite a catastrophic start to the match with the error of their goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie (4th). Gaëtane Thiney quickly brought the teams back on level terms (8th) before Mathilde Bourdieu gave the Parisiennes the advantage (15th). Popp then equalized (30th) before doing so a second time (73rd), after Julie Dufour’s goal (44th) just before the break.

Paris FC therefore did not go far from a feat, after having achieved one during the first qualifying round of this Women’s Champions League, by eliminating the English club Arsenal (3-3, 4-2 tab ) on September 9. To compete in the group stage, the PFC will have to count on a new feat during the return match, on the Wolfsburg pitch, on October 18.
