Paris Fashion Week | Chanel waves on the stages of an eternal Deauville

(Paris) On the last day of Paris Fashion Week, the house of Chanel organized a fashion show on Tuesday “like a cozy winter by the sea”, all in beach hats, flying outfits and nighties, in the reconstructed setting of the boards of Deauville.

The fashion show revolved around the theme of the getaway, introduced on the big screen by a black and white dialogue of certain erotic intensity between Brad Pitt and Penelope Cruz and which ends with the reservation of a room in one of the seaside resort palaces.

A collection intended as “warm”, “pays homage to Deauville, this mythical place where Gabrielle Chanel met her destiny”, explains artistic director Virginie Viard in her note of intent.

It was in Deauville, a chic seaside resort in the English Channel, that Gabrielle Chanel opened her first boutique in 1912 where she sold a very appropriate accessory in windy Normandy… the beach hat.

This accessory was undeniably the star of this fall-winter 2024-2025 fashion show. Worn by most models, in immaculate white or powder pink version, always with extra-wide edges, raised on top and set for chic with silver jewelry.

The collection’s palette was also inspired by bright or pastel tones, from pink, mauve, orange and pale blue to the changing colors of the Deauville sky.

Ivory lingerie dresses follow romantic outfits, ruffled muslin dresses, which evoke the movement of waves or wind through their lightness.

Virginie Viard also offered her clients pea coats with broad shoulders. Long belted dressing gown-style coats are worn over tweed suits, sometimes as culottes, or trousers with a bridge or drawstring tabs at the back.

“Deauville is the eternal side, in the 66 years that I have been going there it has not changed enormously,” notes fashion designer Inès de la Fressange, who has long been the muse of the house, on the sidelines of the show.

Naomi Campbell, Vanessa Paradis and singer Rachel Zegler took their seats in the front row of this very cinematic show, not without evoking the credits of the film “A Man and a Woman” by Claude Lelouch… which takes place in Deauville.

Virginie Viard, who took over from Karl Lagerfeld upon his death in 2019 and whose regularity is sometimes considered as conservatism, nevertheless had “the merit” of not “having lost people along the way”, believes for her part Arielle Dombasle interviewed by AFP at the end of the parade.

“It’s not gratuitous spectacular, it’s what is graceful and always successful,” she adds.

The ninth and final day of Fashion Week dedicated to winter and women’s ready-to-wear will also be punctuated by other fashion shows from major fashion houses.

At Miu Miu, Prada’s whimsical little sister, guests came “dressed” in the past collection, bare legs and mainly in briefs and swimsuits, despite the 11° outside.

The 2024-2025 winter wardrobe of stylist Miuccia Prada has taken a boost, iconoclastic in orange and light blue on very wide and structured skirts worn over flashy, mauve or red tights.

It will be the turn of Lacoste at 4 p.m. then Louis Vuitton at 6:30 p.m. and finally a surprise fashion show by Saint Laurent (men) at 9 p.m. will close the season.
