“I want Parisians to believe that Paris deserves at least two clubs in the first division, of good level, with values, which bring things to this city”, declared Sunday January 14 on franceinfo Rai, former Paris-Saint-Germain player, guest of Club info. The Franco-Brazilian, world champion with Brazil and French champion with PSG in 1994, has been an ambassador for Paris FC since the 2023-2024 season, a club which plays in Ligue 2, and therefore the women’s section plays in D1.

“France is one of the only countries where the capital has only one team in the first division”, Rai wonders. For comparison, this season, of the 20 teams playing in the Premier League (the elite of English football) London has seven clubs: Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Fulham, Brentford, Crystal Palace.

“I have the impression that people no longer believed it when I decided to join Paris FC”says Rai, about the Parisian club, currently 8th in Ligue 2. However, assures the former midfielder, “the city has great potential, there is plenty of space to have a second club here, there is a real project, with a training center in Orly, real values, parity between men and women who have the same working conditions.

“It’s a club which has original ideas, which wants to position itself in a different way, to think about football differently”

Rai also returns to “free places in the championship, in D1 for girls, in league 2 for boys”. This free admission has been effective at the Charléty stadium since November 11, 2023. The former player also speaks about the operation “one match, one cause”launched by the club immediately: “as it’s free, we can make donations, every championship match, there is a cause to which people can contribute”explains the club ambassador.
