Paris denounced, Wednesday June 5, comments made Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Russian embassy in France, who warned against sending French instructors to Ukraine. “If you send your soldiers, your specialists, your instructors to Ukrainian soil to train Ukrainian soldiers to better target and kill the Russians, they will naturally be a legitimate target”declared Tuesday evening Alexander Makogonov on BFMTV.

“These are scandalous remarks which will not remain without consequences”, Christophe Lemoine, deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, told AFP. Asked about a possible summons of a Russian diplomat to the Quai d’Orsay, Christophe Lemoine stressed that discussions were underway on the response to be provided by Paris.

France is considering sending French military instructors to Ukraine, particularly in the field of mine clearance and the maintenance of military equipment. The announcement could be made official on Friday, during the meeting between Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, at the Elysée. Alexander Makogonov estimated Tuesday evening, on this same subject, that “It’s becoming more and more official, so we’re making our warnings more and more official.”
