Victims of Depakine may get justice for the irreversible damage caused by the drug. On Wednesday January 5, the Paris Court found the Sanofi laboratory responsible for a lack of information and vigilance on the side effects of the antiepileptic.

On Wednesday January 5, justice ruled in favor of the many victims of Dépakine. The Sanofi laboratory is recognized as responsible for the lack of information and vigilance on its drug, wrongly prescribed for pregnant women, which has resulted in irreversible malformations in several newborns.

Marine Martin, victim and whistleblower, created an association for the victims of Dépakine. The young woman was administered the drug during her two pregnancies, without any practitioner objecting to it. “At the time in the leaflet, it was marked: ‘Consult your doctor’ (…). Everyone told me the same thing: ‘There is only one defect called spina bifida on the spine, but take vitamin B9 and you will be fine.‘”, she recalls. The two children of Marine Martin were born with physical and neurological consequences, which turned out to be more severe for her second child.
